The Beatles Yesterday And Today Butcher Cover T 2553 Mono LP
The Beatles Yesterday And Today Butcher Cover T 2553 Mono LP. The vinyl is in NM/M- condition and plays clean. The Butcher Peeled cover is in VG+ condition. Includes ORIGINAL inner sleeve. Review photos for details and condition. The original LP sleeves for Yesterday and Today were assembled at Capitol’s four US plants situated in different cities: Los Angeles, California; Scranton, Pennsylvania; Winchester, Virginia; and Jacksonville, Illinois. Numbers designating where the covers originated were printed near the RIAA symbol on the back; for example, stereo copies from the Los Angeles plant were designated “5” and mono Los Angeles copies were marked “6”. Mono copies outnumbered stereo copies by about ten to one, making the stereo copies far more rare and valuable to collectors. Capitol initially ordered plant managers to destroy the covers, and the Jacksonville plant delivered most of its copies to a landfill. However, faced with so many jackets already printed, Capitol decided instead to paste the replacement cover over the old ones. The new cover had to be trimmed on the open end by about 3 mm (1/8 inch) because the new sheet, known as a “slick”, was not placed exactly “square” on top of the original cover. Tens of thousands of these so-called’trunk covers’ were sent out. As word of this manoeuvre became known to the public, owners of the altered cover attempted, usually unsuccessfully, to peel off the pasted-over cover, hoping to reveal the original image hidden beneath. Eventually, the soaring value and desirability of unpasted-over’butcher covers’ spurred the development of intricate and complex techniques for peeling the’trunk cover’ off in such a way that only faint horizontal glue lines remained on the original cover. Copies that have never had the white cover pasted onto them, known as “first state” covers, are very rare and command the highest prices. Copies with the pasted-on cover intact above the’butcher’ image are known as “second state” or “pasteovers”. Today, “pasteover” covers that have remained unpeeled are also becoming increasingly rare and valuable; these can be identified if Ringo Starr’s black V-neck shirt from the original cover can be seen through the paste-over to the right of the trunk lid (in alignment with the word “Today” from the album title). Covers that have had the’trunk cover’ removed to reveal the underlying’butcher’ image are known as “third state” covers; these are now the most common (and least valuable, although their value varies depending on how well the cover is removed) as people continue to peel second state covers. The most valuable and highly prized first and second state’butcher covers’ are those that were never opened and remain still sealed in their original shrink-wrap. Minor Threat Filler 7 Blue Cover 4th Press Dischord Records 1981
1981 pressing of Minor Threats game changing debut. This is the 4th pressing blue sleeve. This record has seen better days, it was thoroughly enjoyed and the soundtrack to a lot of punker pad misbehaving. Somewhat surprised how well it plays to be honest. Not the cleanest copy you can find but perhaps the price will be right for you. This sleeve has wrinkles and, bends and discoloring along top edge that was not protected by plastic outer sleeve. Tear along top edge. What looks like glue residue possibly on parts of sleeve. As is common, glue on sleeve has dried and failed revealing hand written flex your head previously hidden in glued seam. VINYL : is in great shape. Play tested, sounds excellent, very little surface noise between tracks. Included, insert has blue stains as if maybe the sleeve got wet at some point and bled onto the insert. See photos to assess visual grading for yourself. By the time the Capitol Records released Yesterday And Today , the Beatles were in hot water in America. The record was released just after John’s infamous interview in which he stated that the Beatles were “bigger than Jesus”, which angered Americans and provoked many bans on their music and public incinerations of memorabilia. But Yesterday And Today would take public dispproval to a whole new level, as the original cover featured the band in butcher’s smocks with baby doll parts and raw meat covering them. The record was pulled almost immediately – creating an instant collector’s item – and in the confusion that followed, several replacement covers were issued. Songs on the album were taken from the’leftovers’ of the British release Rubber Soul as well as the single/B-side “Yesterday/Act Naturally” released on the UK version of Help! , the single/B-side “We Can Work It Out/ DayTripper”, and three songs which had not, at that point, been released in the UK: “I’m Only Sleeping”, “Doctor Robert”, and “And Your Bird Can Sing” (which all wound up on the UK version of Revolver). CONDITION : The cover : rated: “EX” (excellent) / M- TOP LEVEL… The front “Butcher” cover is magnificent – crystal-clear with no imperfections! Overall as the photos show, the front & back panels are GREAT – all things considered see photos – appearance in hand is exactly like what is presented in the photos here. Most peeled butcher copies will show at least more wear, tears and imperfections to the cover slick. This copy makes makes for a fantastic display-worthy (framed) wall hanging, total greatness with no wear to the front cover! The 4 individual Beatles faces in their butcher glory are spotless clean , a rarity for even the best Butcher covers. The spine is solid – in tact and legible (per photo)… Again, far and away better than the “usual” original Butcher cover offered. A GRAND addition to any valuable collection…. Solid peeled Butchers covers like this are very scarce with most copies are safely tucked away in private collections. No split seams, no tears or rips, no writing, no delete marks, overall in reasonable acceptable investment condition – ask any further pertinent questions please. The vinyl is rated: VG++ representing a respectable platter , few minor hair scuffs is all and plays exceptional throughout — even though it’s all about the butcher cover – as you know, and the original’66 vinyl is readily available for future up-grade purposes if desired. Both 1966 (mono) RAINBOW Capitol labels are clean. A cool addition to anyone’s music library! SEE: SELLERS OTher items for similar cool sounds for “head” people. All imperfections are noted both cover & record. IF you have a problem PLEASE let us solve. GRADING SCALE: M, M-, EX, VG++, VG+, VG, VG. M Completely clean, no marks. M- Carefully used, looks clean, plays clean, shiny gloss, no marks. EX Faint scuff or superficial mark, near M-, high gloss, plays clean. VG++ Glossy with minimal scuffing or light mark playing very nice, clean. VG+ a bit more scuff or markls still plays well with very minimal surface at worse. VG more marks/scratches only minor, nothing deep, no loud clicks or pops. This grade is abused by many, VG here does not mean “trashed”. VG- surface noise present, will not have skips or jumps. BEATLES BUTCHER COVER GORGEOUS 3RD STATE WithREMOVED TRUNK SLICK, RECORD AND MORE
Beatles 3rd State (Peeled) Mono Butcher Cover. This is a first time offering and this package includes a prime example of the Butcher Cover with its removed Trunk Slick, mono record, inner sleeve, COA and free packet of Butcher related info. This is an awesome offering due to the quality of the peel and the overall quality of the complete package as a whole. Combined with the removed trunk slick, this would make a great candidate for framing. The peel is equally as nice and this presents as well as nearly any jacket we have offered in the past. Most of the peels offered on the internet have noticeable large tears or other serious damage to the Butcher slick, but not the case here. This is a gorgeous peel. Borders are nice and generally white with only mild tanning. Overall, this is a solid jacket with light wear and decent seams and spine. The top, bottom seams and spine on this are complete with just a teeny 1/8 chip of missing paper at the very bottom of the spine. The spine printing is present with just a little cracking/checking and light wear to the spine. The back of the jacket is fairly clean with little wear and light tanning. No names, big tears, large stains or other problems with the back. This one’s a keeper! Please see photos for confirmation of all of these specific condition descriptions. Comes with an original goldenrod colored 1966 inner sleeve. A nice Scranton mono record in VG+ visual condition is included. Nice labels on the record with some minor superficial sleeve scuffs and scratches and name written on side 2 of the record. The trunk slick is included and in condition as shown in framable condition with some light wrinkling/wear and tear. Also included in this sale is a Certificate Of Authenticity which certifies not only the authenticity and chain of custody of the item, but a certification of the peeling process. It should be emphasized that Butcher Covers of this quality and grade are highly desired by collectors and are genuinely scarce in this condition. This item is an original and genuine 1966 3rd State (Peeled) used example of the legendary Butcher Cover. This item is guaranteed to be authentic. Given the fact that this item has been professionally peeled and altered from a 2nd state (unpeeled) condition to a 3rd state (peeled) example, this item has condition elements that reflect the process of treatment of the item when it was glued at the Capitol factory in 1966 as well as conditional elements from the actual peeling process. These elements generally involve mild glue lines that were made at the pressing plant when the trunk cover was pasted over but also include some minor issues from the removal process. This is not a new item but a used one that has been restored through a tedious and careful process. We have contributed to television shows, collectible books and have displays in many of the best record guide books including “The Price Guide For The Beatles American Records” By Perry Cox and Frank Daniels. In other words, we don’t send our Butcher Covers out to others who provide peeling services but own and supervise all work that is performed on the Butcher Covers that we sell. Please note that the item that you will receive is exactly as seen in the photographs. As seen in the photos, this jacket doesnt lay 100 flat as a result of the peeling process and the fact that it is stored without a record inside the jacket. This is fairly common and does not significantly detract from the fantastic look of this 3rd state. Although the seams and spine are better than the average jacket, we strictly advise against placing a record and inner sleeve inside the jacket. (USA – CAPITOL RECORDS – T 2553) MONO. 1966 ORIG “BUTCHER COVER” – UNPEELED – 100% real deal w/ trunk paste-on cover.. This is an UNPEELED VG++’trunk cover’ with a potentially TOTALLY CLEAN (M-) “Butcher” cover underneath. Condition of the “trunk cover” means nothing in terms that there is NO concerning problems with this trunk cover ensuring the BUTCHER COVER GRAPHICS pasted over the trunk cover remain with MINT visuals – when professionally peeled. Recent information has suggested UNPEELED Butcher covers like this are getting far more scarce these days since most covers have been peeled by amateurs or professionals. THINK TWICE : holy grail BEATLES “butcher” cover – in high demand, will only continue to increase in value. Again, the vinyl is in TOP CLEAN (M-) condition!! The trunk/ butcher cover is all around: solid, having a clean (EX “excellent” clean) back cover. The disc is VG and plays just fine – which is insignificant — as we all know it’s all about the BUTCHER cover, here in solid condition; most likely will not last long. ORIGINAL 1966 printed inner sleeve included. NOTE : This cover can easily be peeled with careful patient removal, find the options available on “how to remove paste over Butcher covers”(and/or “where”) on the internet. <><><><><> < T >< H >< E ><>< B >< E >< A >< T >< L >< E >< S > <><><><><>. But Yesterday And Today would take public disapproval to a whole new level, as the original cover featured the band in butcher’s smocks with baby doll parts and raw meat covering them. CONDITION : The cover : rated: VG++ trunk cover has some minor minor! Shelf rub wear that was starting – and contained; so when potentially peeled correctly you will have a mint or M- Butcher cover original slick underneath… There is no soil on the trunk cover , outside of little age spotting at very top left that won’t be a problem in peeling off the trunk cover process. Again, this cover has the potential to be peeled to a mint state. Investment/collectible properties have a high value ceiling with success in the peeling process which are at high standards these days. We have personally spoken to a couple pro peelers who have flawless services concerning covers just like this one. Overall, the seams are totally solid rare for a Butcher cover! , the back cover is pretty clean still white! Rated about “EX” (excellent) — nothing significant to be concerned over- see photo #2. Really hard to find such white back cover, when 52 years onward most butcher covers have age spotting – or worse! Photo #2 (if you look close) reveals the tell-tale BUTCHER cover sign in the “V” neck in Ringo’s shirt/coat. Most original’66 butcher covers are safely tucked away in private collections… An obvious timeless investment item, has no bends, no writing & no delete marks. Rated; super clean M- TOP COPY a beauty to go along with the original “Butcher” cover… Looks and plays flawless and the MONO rainbow 1966 rainbow Capitol labels are clean. ALL PAYMENTS SHOULD BE MADE WITHIN 5 DAYS Of AUCTIONS END. Less than 20 have been found so far! This is why it has been bootlegged so many times… But this is no bootleg, but a genuine first version stereo pressing with the rarest of all, COLUMN COVER as well with the first original song listings featuring the songs Love me Do and PS I Love You. There were three variants of the first version, an AD cover (featuring ads of other VJ LP’s on the rear slick), a BLANK cover which is just what it sounds like… A blank cover slick and the rarest of all the COLUMN COVER (with the songs listed in columns on the rear slick). This is the most rare, because the VJ label had received a court injunction against them for the use of the songs Love Me Do and PS I Love You, which they had already pressed into these LP’s. It was because of this that they tried to hide the contents of the LP with the other two variants and why the version with the songs listed is SO RARE! Couple that with the STEREO version (ultra rare in stereo to begin with) and you have a supreme top shelf collectible… One of less than TWENTY!! Much more rare than the BUTCHER COVER, incidentally! Need to start liquidating my collection. What see you see is what you get. Thanks for looking and have a great day. CONDITION : The cover : rated: the front “Butcher” cover is magnificent – crystal-clear with no imperfections! Downgrading a bit to overall “EX” (excellent) because of very minimal rub wear on spine but no seams splits. The back cover is very clean with exception of a small rub-wear spot at upper right of back, but not showing up in photos as small and still white. Overall as the photos show, the front & back panels are GREAT – all things considered see photos – appearance in hand is exactly like what is presented in the photos here. Most peeled butcher copies will show at least some or more wear, tears and imperfections to the cover slick. This copy makes makes for a fantastic display-worthy (framed) wall hanging, total greatness with no wear to the front cover! The 4 individual Beatles faces in their butcher glory are spotless clean , a rarity for even the best Butcher covers. Just the wear on spine and that little wear spot on back cover keep the overall cover from being M. Again, much better than the “usual” original Butcher cover. Overall, a GRAND addition to any valuable collection…. BEATLES 1966 STILL SEALED MONO FIRST STATE BUTCHER COVER LP GORGEOUS! Beatles – Yesterday And Today (Capitol). 1966 mono original “First State” “Butcher” cover LP. This one never had the second (trunk) slick pasted over it. This is an UNOPENED Los Angeles issue (factory #6 on back cover). There are three “breathe holes” detectable in the front shrink wrap and one on the back. This sealed copy has a 1 1/2″ separation in the shrink wrap at the opening, where the yellow Capitol inner sleeve is clearly visible and another 1/4″ separation just below it.. Corners of cover are slightly “pushed” and the bottom right one is slightly worn. These issues are listed here for completeness, but they do not take away from the overall beautiful condition of the cover, which is very displayable. First state butcher covers are extremely rare and sealed examples rarely are offered for sale. A fantastic example of an extremely rare record. Includes Rockaway Records Letter of Authenticity. Important notes about our grading: We grade conservatively, accurately and honestly. S/S, M, M- (NM), VG++, VG+, VG, VG-, G, WBR (Poor). We do not use EX (many dealers’ EX would be our VG).
