By the time the Capitol Records released Yesterday And Today , the Beatles were in hot water in America. The record was released just after John’s infamous interview in which he stated that the Beatles were “bigger than Jesus”, which angered Americans and provoked many bans on their music and public incinerations of memorabilia. But Yesterday And Today would take public dispproval to a whole new level, as the original cover featured the band in butcher’s smocks with baby doll parts and raw meat covering them. The record was pulled almost immediately – creating an instant collector’s item – and in the confusion that followed, several replacement covers were issued. Songs on the album were taken from the’leftovers’ of the British release Rubber Soul as well as the single/B-side “Yesterday/Act Naturally” released on the UK version of Help! , the single/B-side “We Can Work It Out/ DayTripper”, and three songs which had not, at that point, been released in the UK: “I’m Only Sleeping”, “Doctor Robert”, and “And Your Bird Can Sing” (which all wound up on the UK version of Revolver). CONDITION : The cover : rated: “EX” (excellent) / M- TOP LEVEL… The front “Butcher” cover is magnificent – crystal-clear with no imperfections! Overall as the photos show, the front & back panels are GREAT – all things considered see photos – appearance in hand is exactly like what is presented in the photos here. Most peeled butcher copies will show at least more wear, tears and imperfections to the cover slick. This copy makes makes for a fantastic display-worthy (framed) wall hanging, total greatness with no wear to the front cover! The 4 individual Beatles faces in their butcher glory are spotless clean , a rarity for even the best Butcher covers. The spine is solid – in tact and legible (per photo)… Again, far and away better than the “usual” original Butcher cover offered. A GRAND addition to any valuable collection…. Solid peeled Butchers covers like this are very scarce with most copies are safely tucked away in private collections. No split seams, no tears or rips, no writing, no delete marks, overall in reasonable acceptable investment condition – ask any further pertinent questions please. The vinyl is rated: VG++ representing a respectable platter , few minor hair scuffs is all and plays exceptional throughout — even though it’s all about the butcher cover – as you know, and the original’66 vinyl is readily available for future up-grade purposes if desired. Both 1966 (mono) RAINBOW Capitol labels are clean. A cool addition to anyone’s music library! SEE: SELLERS OTher items for similar cool sounds for “head” people. All imperfections are noted both cover & record. IF you have a problem PLEASE let us solve. GRADING SCALE: M, M-, EX, VG++, VG+, VG, VG. M Completely clean, no marks. M- Carefully used, looks clean, plays clean, shiny gloss, no marks. EX Faint scuff or superficial mark, near M-, high gloss, plays clean. VG++ Glossy with minimal scuffing or light mark playing very nice, clean. VG+ a bit more scuff or markls still plays well with very minimal surface at worse. VG more marks/scratches only minor, nothing deep, no loud clicks or pops. This grade is abused by many, VG here does not mean “trashed”. VG- surface noise present, will not have skips or jumps.
