HANK MOBLEY SOUL STATION BLUE NOTE BLP 4031 47 WEST 63RD DG RVG. LAMINATED COVER IS STRONG VG+ WITH MODERATE CORNER DINGS WITH 43 WEST 61ST STREET, NEW YORK 23 ADDRESS OBC. THERE IS A SMALL CHIP LOWER RIGHT CORNER AND A LITTLE ROUGHNESS RIGHT OPENING EDGE. BACK COVER HAS A SMALL CHIP LOWER LEFT CORNER. OVERALL, THE BACK SLICK HAS A LITTLE AGING DISCOLORATION AND A SMALL STAMP UPPER RIGHT. DOUBLE DEEP GROOVED WHITE/BLUE LABEL DISC IS STRONG G+ WITH NUMEROUS SCRATCHES AND SCUFFS, WITH A FEW BEING BARELY FEELABLE SURFACE MARKS. THERE ARE NO GOUGES OR SKIPS AND MIRACULOUSLY PLAYS VG+ BUT WITH CONSTANT SNAP, CRACKLE AND POP BACKGROUND NOISE, THE LEVEL OF WHICH IS NOT EQUAL TO THE BEAUTIFUL MUSIC VOLUME EMANATING FROM MOBLEY’S POWERFUL RESPIRATORY PROWESS. ONLY ON SIDE 2, 2ND TRACK (SOUL STATION) ARE THERE 3 POPS THAT EQUAL THE VOLUME OF MUSIC. I’VE PLAYED THIS LP ON MY MEDIOCRE SOUND SYSTEM AND THOROUGHLY ENJOYED IT. IT REALLY PLAYS QUITE WELL. ALL MUSIC IS QUITE CRISP AND CLEAR. BOTH LABELS HAVE 47 WEST 63RD. NYC ADDRESS AND RVG BOTH SIDES AND EAR. DISC IS ENSHEATHED IN ORIGINAL BLUE NOTE INNER SLEEVE. ALL LPS ARE VISUALLY GRADED – NO AUDIO QUALITY IMPLIED. UNLESS STILL SEALED, ALL DISCS WILL BE PULLED FROM COVERS AND TOGETHER PLACED INTO A POLY SLEEVE. PROTECTIVE SLEEVE WILL NOT BE GRADED. This Is The Original US First Press Mono LP On Blue Note Label – Deep Groove – RVG,’Ear’ & 9M In Deadwax. Pictures are of the exact copy for sale. The images are the very first high quality pictures taken of the Micro-Sculpture hand carved by Willard Wigan MBE in honour of Mobley’s Masterpiece, Rudy Van Gelder & early sound equipment. Willard worked from this exact copy of the LP as a reference to reproduce his own impossibly small version. The Micro-Sculpture is not included in the sale of the record. Please get in contact. Graded Using Record Collector. Sleeve: NM (stunning, some very minor wear to corners / seams only). Vinyl: EX+/NM (very light play from new, there are just a few non feel-able surface marks / whisp lines, the audio is sensational). Artist: Hank Mobley Title: S/T Label: Blue Note 1568 (Mono, DG, RVG,’ear’, Side 1: 47 West 63rd NYC, Side 2: 47 West 63rd New York 23). Condition: Cover VG+; Record VG+ (info below). Artists: Hank Mobley (tenor sax), Bill Hardman (trumpet), Curtis Porter (alto & tenor sax), Sonny Clark (piano), Paul Chambers (bass), Art Taylor (drums). Details: Here we go, folks! It stands as the most difficult to obtain classic released on the iconic Blue Note label. This is one of the rare true first press copies of this record with the side 2 variant address of 47 West 63. Don’t miss out on this amazing gem! The cover is impressively well-kept and is VERY STURDY. There is a slight bend in the cover. Has some minor yellowing on the cover, and a few dings and marks. There is about a 1/4 chip at the top of the cover. All four corners are a bit rounded with the bottom left having a slight ding. No splits at all on the cover (see pictures for more details). Includes it’s original blank sleeve that is in excellent shape. The record is now housed in a separate audiophile sleeve in order to keep it safe and to keep the original, 60-year-old sleeve from splitting. The record is in SOLID VG+ condition with some very minor marks that do not affect play. It has been professionally cleaned on a VPI. The album was play-graded on a Project turntable with Ortofon needle and played with only minor noise during the extremely quiet parts of “Bags Groove” during the Paul Chambers solo.
