The Beatles Yesterday And Today Butcher Cover T 2553 Mono LP
The Beatles Yesterday And Today Butcher Cover T 2553 Mono LP. The vinyl is in NM/M- condition and plays clean. The Butcher Peeled cover is in VG+ condition. Includes ORIGINAL inner sleeve. Review photos for details and condition. The original LP sleeves for Yesterday and Today were assembled at Capitol’s four US plants situated in different cities: Los Angeles, California; Scranton, Pennsylvania; Winchester, Virginia; and Jacksonville, Illinois. Numbers designating where the covers originated were printed near the RIAA symbol on the back; for example, stereo copies from the Los Angeles plant were designated “5” and mono Los Angeles copies were marked “6”. Mono copies outnumbered stereo copies by about ten to one, making the stereo copies far more rare and valuable to collectors. Capitol initially ordered plant managers to destroy the covers, and the Jacksonville plant delivered most of its copies to a landfill. However, faced with so many jackets already printed, Capitol decided instead to paste the replacement cover over the old ones. The new cover had to be trimmed on the open end by about 3 mm (1/8 inch) because the new sheet, known as a “slick”, was not placed exactly “square” on top of the original cover. Tens of thousands of these so-called’trunk covers’ were sent out. As word of this manoeuvre became known to the public, owners of the altered cover attempted, usually unsuccessfully, to peel off the pasted-over cover, hoping to reveal the original image hidden beneath. Eventually, the soaring value and desirability of unpasted-over’butcher covers’ spurred the development of intricate and complex techniques for peeling the’trunk cover’ off in such a way that only faint horizontal glue lines remained on the original cover. Copies that have never had the white cover pasted onto them, known as “first state” covers, are very rare and command the highest prices. Copies with the pasted-on cover intact above the’butcher’ image are known as “second state” or “pasteovers”. Today, “pasteover” covers that have remained unpeeled are also becoming increasingly rare and valuable; these can be identified if Ringo Starr’s black V-neck shirt from the original cover can be seen through the paste-over to the right of the trunk lid (in alignment with the word “Today” from the album title). Covers that have had the’trunk cover’ removed to reveal the underlying’butcher’ image are known as “third state” covers; these are now the most common (and least valuable, although their value varies depending on how well the cover is removed) as people continue to peel second state covers. The most valuable and highly prized first and second state’butcher covers’ are those that were never opened and remain still sealed in their original shrink-wrap. A superb Near Mint-/Near Mint UK Mono first pressing of. With the very low number 00001043. Millions of numbered copies of the White Album were produced, and to find a copy with a number this lowespecially in this conditionis very rare. This is by far the lowest number weve offered. The mono discs (with a unique mix, different from the much more common stereo pressings) are the earliest version, without An EMI Recordings on the dark green Apple labels. They are extremely clean, grading NM/NM and NM/NM. The matrix codes are -1/5/OM, -1/5/TT, -1/1/GP and -1/1/GM. All four sides play beautifully, without issue. The cover grades NM-; the number is stamped clearly and cleanly. On the front cover there is a small crease to the top left corner, a small and faint 3/4 x 1/5 moisture stain on the top left edge, and a barely visible area of very slight discoloration near the top half of the left edgeit looks like a bit of moisture got under the lamination when it was manufactured, almost like a puff of smoke was trapped, and it is almost unnoticeable. The back cover is beautiful, with only a diagonal lamination crease to the bottom left corner, and the inner gatefold is in beautiful condition. These are all minor distractions, but we try to note any imperfection. Overall the cover is very clean, and the photos give an accurate representation. Both black innersleeves are in EX condition, the 4 photographs NM, and the poster NM. A beautiful, very low numbered copy of an essential album. We grade all records visually, cover first, then disc; using the abbreviations M / NM / EX / VG with + and. We try to describe everything as accurately as possible, and spot check any vinyl flaw that looks like it might make a sound. We just grade accurately, describe any flaw, and sell only high quality rare records in fine condition. See our other listings for more from this fantastic collection. Recordmecca’s clients include the Smithsonian Institution, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Experience Music Project, the Country Music Hall of Fame, and the Victoria & Albert Museum. Great mono copy of this classic, perfect record. The record has some superficial marks but plays beautifully, no skips, etc… Ill call it VG+. Ill call the cover VG, though some might call it VG+, see pictures. Some corner wear and a small split in the middle of the top seam. It is on International Artists and it has the misspelling on the back cover (posturos) so that all points to an early Pressing. Let me know if you have any questions. Check out my other auctions for more cool stuff. Side 1: IA-LP-05 A. Side 2: IA-LP-05 3. All I can do is provide you with the information I see on the record and cover. As I said already, Im not sure how to tell the difference of which Pressing this is and have provided you with all the information off of the record as well as pictures for you to make you own determination. By the time the Capitol Records released Yesterday And Today , the Beatles were in hot water in America. The record was released just after John’s infamous interview in which he stated that the Beatles were “bigger than Jesus”, which angered Americans and provoked many bans on their music and public incinerations of memorabilia. But Yesterday And Today would take public dispproval to a whole new level, as the original cover featured the band in butcher’s smocks with baby doll parts and raw meat covering them. The record was pulled almost immediately – creating an instant collector’s item – and in the confusion that followed, several replacement covers were issued. Songs on the album were taken from the’leftovers’ of the British release Rubber Soul as well as the single/B-side “Yesterday/Act Naturally” released on the UK version of Help! , the single/B-side “We Can Work It Out/ DayTripper”, and three songs which had not, at that point, been released in the UK: “I’m Only Sleeping”, “Doctor Robert”, and “And Your Bird Can Sing” (which all wound up on the UK version of Revolver). CONDITION : The cover : rated: “EX” (excellent) / M- TOP LEVEL… The front “Butcher” cover is magnificent – crystal-clear with no imperfections! Overall as the photos show, the front & back panels are GREAT – all things considered see photos – appearance in hand is exactly like what is presented in the photos here. Most peeled butcher copies will show at least more wear, tears and imperfections to the cover slick. This copy makes makes for a fantastic display-worthy (framed) wall hanging, total greatness with no wear to the front cover! The 4 individual Beatles faces in their butcher glory are spotless clean , a rarity for even the best Butcher covers. The spine is solid – in tact and legible (per photo)… Again, far and away better than the “usual” original Butcher cover offered. A GRAND addition to any valuable collection…. Solid peeled Butchers covers like this are very scarce with most copies are safely tucked away in private collections. No split seams, no tears or rips, no writing, no delete marks, overall in reasonable acceptable investment condition – ask any further pertinent questions please. The vinyl is rated: VG++ representing a respectable platter , few minor hair scuffs is all and plays exceptional throughout — even though it’s all about the butcher cover – as you know, and the original’66 vinyl is readily available for future up-grade purposes if desired. Both 1966 (mono) RAINBOW Capitol labels are clean. A cool addition to anyone’s music library! SEE: SELLERS OTher items for similar cool sounds for “head” people. All imperfections are noted both cover & record. IF you have a problem PLEASE let us solve. GRADING SCALE: M, M-, EX, VG++, VG+, VG, VG. M Completely clean, no marks. M- Carefully used, looks clean, plays clean, shiny gloss, no marks. EX Faint scuff or superficial mark, near M-, high gloss, plays clean. VG++ Glossy with minimal scuffing or light mark playing very nice, clean. VG+ a bit more scuff or markls still plays well with very minimal surface at worse. VG more marks/scratches only minor, nothing deep, no loud clicks or pops. This grade is abused by many, VG here does not mean “trashed”. VG- surface noise present, will not have skips or jumps. It’s everything the SACD offers and more, minus the slight digital sheen, and shockingly quieter Yes! The vinyl produced blacker backgrounds than did the SACD, hence the “shock” Ed. In addition, the packaging (which was sent in an unfinalized version) is stunning; the album itself is housed in a Stoughton tip-on gatefold while the outer two-piece box is of excellent build and features a beautiful wooden spine. Read the entire commentary, based on a pre-production copy of the album, here. Analogue Productions, the audiophile in-house reissue label of Acoustic Sounds, Inc. For sale is a first U. Mono pressing of The Beatles – White Album from 1968. Top loader gatefold sleeve with low number 0034572 and complete with poster and photos. Early first issue as has no An EMI recording on labels. Original top loader gatefold sleeve in VG+ condition. No rips , tears or writing. Some edgewear and spine wear. Original poster in VG+ condition, with no marks, or tears on the folding edges. Original photos complete and in excellent condition. No pin holes as so many tend to have. Original black inner sleeves are VG. These are well known for their flimsiness and do have minor tears on the edges, but otherwise intact. The two records are visually an easy VG+, with only minor scuffs and hairlines. Labels, without An EMI Recording text are all in generally great shape. I have had to mark both records down to VG- in my grading as track one of side one has a couple of short skips early in the track. There is also a small skip about one minute into track one of side three. There are no obvious marks that would suggest these will skip. Track one side two has some surface noise. This is a complete and low number copy of a great double album. The item “Beatles The White Album UK 1st Mono top-loader 0034572 Complete VG+/VG- No EMI” is in sale since Thursday, May 9, 2019.
