David Bowie – A New Career In A New Town (1977 – 1982) is the third in a series of box sets spanning his career from 1969 and the follow-up to the awarding winning and critically acclaimed David Bowie – Five Years (1969 – 1973) and David Bowie – Who Can I Be Now? This 13 LP box set features features all of the material officially released by David Bowie between 1977 and 1982 including all four studio albums (Low, Heroes, Lodger and Scary Monsters), his 1978 live album Stage in both original and expanded track listings, the newly compiled Heroes E. Collecting together both the German and French long and single versions of “Heroes”, and the exclusive new compilation of single versions, non-album singles and B-sides, Re: Call 3. Also included exclusively is a brand-new remix of the 1979 album Lodger by long time Bowie producer/collaborator Tony Visconti. This 46 years old acetate comes from a major collection, acquired from an RCA executive (certified original). Tracks are mostly unreleased at the time. A1 Velvet Goldmine (309). A2 Holy Holy (220). A3 Round And Round (240). A4 Port Of Amsterdam (320). B1 The Prettiest Star (305). B2 London Bye Ta-Ta (235). B3 Conversation Piece (305). B4 Holy Holy (310). Acetates are not like pressed vinyl records. They are made of an aluminium plate coated with a cellulose-based lacquer and processed directly from the master tape using a cutting lathe. They are expensive and fragile, and cutting requires time and expertise. Three types of acetates exist. Studio/Playback acetates , usually cut during the recording sessions to evaluate the song or for the manager to look for a record label or transfer as demo samples to existing record company for evaluation/feedback. These often contain alternate versions and usually only a handful are cut. Mastering/Reference acetates , usually cut at the record company for internal evaluation purposes. These sometimes contain alternate mixes or previously unreleaed material (like this one); and. Production acetates , these are cut to produce the stampers/matrices, thus contain finished songs as released and most are destroyed during the process. Format: 12 Vinyl LP Label : RCA Victor Cat No : SF 8287 Year: 1972 Country: UK Condition (Sleeve/Disc): EX+/EX See below for grading definitions Notes: Complete with printed inner. Glossy orange labels with “Stereo” text, no Mainman credits it has Titanic credits on the labels. The sleeve has only minor storage wear, no rips or splits. The inner has a little creasing, no splits. Please zoom in and have a good look at the photos. The record is in great condition very clean, with only a few very light surface marks. We remove all records from their sleeve, where there is a lyric inner or similar the record will also be removes and transported in a poly lined inner. All contents will the be bagged. We package our records in the best available mailers with two cardboard protective stiffeners, great care is taken with all packaging to ensure that your record arrives in the best possible condition. Auctions please pay within 4 days of the listing ending. Heavy items such as Hi-Fi equipment are excluded. Please note that all of our records are visually graded under strong light, unless otherwise stated. We stock 1000’s of records so it is impossible for us to play every record. Please feel free to request a play grade which we will happily provide. We only grade as mint where the record is brand new and sealed with no visible damage to the sleeve. It may have slight corner bumps/rub, ringwear and maybe very minor creasing. It will have no rips or splits. Record: We be in a new like condition. It may have very, very minor defects such as no more than a couple of very light wispy hairlines and a couple of spindle trails around the centre holes. Basically a record in NM condition will look like you have just got it back from the record shop or at worse only had a couple of plays. Sleeve: As NM but the signs of wear will become a little more pronounced. There may be signs of stress at the seams maybe the beginnings of a split. It may have a cut out hole indicating that it was taken out of print. There may be a little graffiti on the sleeve or label. Record: Will show signs of play but has been well looked after by the previous owner. It may show a few more light marks/scuffs than a NM. These marks won’t be deep enough to be felt. Slight warps are that don’t effect the sound are OK. Sleeve: A VG sleeve will have many of the defects found in a EX but more pronounced. Seam splits may be more obvious or may be taped or show residue. There may be small rips. Laminate may be bubbled, may be marred with writing. Record: Wear and defects will be more obvious with marks/scuffs deep enough to feel with a fingernail. Groove wear will be more noticeable. Sound deterioration and surface noise will become more likely especially during quieter passages. We don’t sell records with a lower grade than VG unless it is incredibly rare.
