All recordings are visually inspected under high-intensity lights, using our customized grading system. New Sealed Mint (SS). When someone says something’s “Mint condition, ” this is what they’re talking about. The album is sealed in its original packaging and has never been played. This is the highest grade for records that have been played. The album is in excellent condition and shows no visible signs of wear or damage that will affect sound quality. While not flawless, the condition is very good, showing only minimal signs of use. Any visible blemishes should have minimal affect on play quality, though light surface noise maybe present at very quiet portions or between tracks. This is a record that should satisfy all but the most strict of collectors. There may be slight ring or cover wear, or minor writing on the cover. Vinyl may have scratches and/or other visual blemishes, but should play through without skipping or repeating. Light to moderate surface noise and/or crackle may be present, however not overly distracting. Covers may have moderate ring and/or edge wear, cut-outs / hole punches, or a moderate seam splits. Let’s be honest: sound quality is low and the cover may be in very poor shape. We consider any item graded at or below VG- as a LOW GRADE item. We only sell albums rated VG- and above unless a record is so rare that its presence in the collection transcends the poor quality of the vinyl or cover. This collection has been completely play tested to ensure its quality AND CLEANED ON A PROFESSIONSL VPI CLEANING MACHINE. REMASTERING THE BEATLES ORIGINAL STUDIO ALBUMS FOR 180 GRAM VINYL: There has always been demand for The Beatles albums on vinyl. Following the success of The Beatles acclaimed, GRAMMY Award-winning 2009 CD remasters, it was decided that the sound experts at EMIs Abbey Road Studios should create new versions of The Beatles vinyl LPs. The project demanded the same meticulous approach taken for the CD releases, and the idea was a simple one: cut the digital remasters to vinyl with an absolute minimum of compromise to the sound. However, the process involved to do that was far from simple. The first stage in transferring the sound of a master recording to vinyl is the creation of a disc to be used during vinyl manufacture. There were two options to consider. A Direct Metal Master (DMM), developed in the late seventies, allows sound to be cut directly into a stainless steel disc coated with a hard copper alloy. The older, alternative method is to cut the sound into the soft lacquer coating on a nickel disc – the first of several steps leading to the production of a stamper to press the vinyl. A blind listening test was arranged to choose between a lacquer or copper cut. Using both methods, A Hard Days Night was pressed with ten seconds of silence at the beginning and end of each side. This allowed not only the reproduction of the music to be assessed, but also the noise made by the vinyl itself. After much discussion, two factors swung the decision towards using the lacquer process. First, it was judged to create a warmer sound than a DMM. Secondly, there was a practical advantage of having blank discs of a consistent quality when cutting lacquers. The next step was to use the Neumann VMS80 cutting lathe at Abbey Road. Following thorough mechanical and electrical tests to ensure it was operating in peak condition, engineer Sean Magee cut the LPs in chronological release order. He used the 24-bit Digital Masters Sourced from the Original Analog Master Tapes rather than the 16-bit versions that were required for CD production. It was also decided to use the remasters that had not undergone limiting – a procedure to increase the sound level, which is deemed necessary for most current pop CDs. Having made initial test cuts, Magee pinpointed any sound problems that can occur during playback of vinyl records. To rectify them, changes were made to the remasters with a Digital Audio Workstation. For example, each vinyl album was listened to for any sibilant episodes – vocal distortion that can occur on consonant sounds such as S and T. These were corrected by reducing the level in the very small portion of sound causing the undesired effect. Similarly, any likelihood of inner-groove distortion was addressed. As the stylus approaches the centre of the record, it is liable to track the groove less accurately. This can affect the high-middle frequencies, producing a mushy sound particularly noticeable on vocals. Using what Magee has described as surgical EQ, problem frequencies were identified and reduced in level to compensate for this. The last phase of the vinyl mastering process began with the arrival of the first batches of test pressings made from master lacquers that had been sent to the two pressing plant factories. If this happened, it was clear that the undesired sounds had been introduced either during the cutting or the pressing stage and so the test records were rejected. In the quest to achieve the highest quality possible, the Abbey Road team worked closely with the pressing factories and the manufacturers of the lacquer and cutting styli. An additional and unusual challenge was to ensure the proper playback of the sounds embedded in the lock-groove at the end of side two of Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. Requiring a combination of good timing and luck, it had always been a lengthy and costly process to make it work properly. In fact, it was so tricky, it had never been attempted for American pressings of the LP. Naturally, Sean Magee and the team perfected this and the garbled message is heard as originally intended on the remastered Sgt. Highly-skilled technicians have worked long and hard to make The Beatles on vinyl sound better than ever. All we need to do is listen to the results of their dedicated labour on the remastered LPs. But most of all, enjoy the music. The Beatles Yesterday And Today LP VG+ RARE 1971 Red Label & Purple Target USA
Label: Capitol Records Format: Lp Stereo Country: USA Vinyl Condition: VG+ Cover Condition: VG Year Released: 1971 LP Quantity: 1 Catalog #: ST 2553. Record has been cleaned and new sleeved. RIAA 16 on back cover. Red gold award printed on front cover. Red labels with the Purple target. Stamper: ST1-2553-B8 / ST2-2553-B8 #2. Offered is an extremely rare issue of The Beatles “Yesterday”… This is the Red labels with the Purple target variation. In May of 1971 Capitol Records began issuing albums on the newly designed Red label variation. The first two Beatles albums Capitol received pressing orders for were “Revolver” and “Yesterday”… Almost immediately the pressing of these two albums abruptly ended when Apple Records announced that they were going to re-issue all Beatles albums on their label. At that point there were an unknown number of “Revolver” pressed and probably only about 100 of Y&T pressed. The actual pressing numbers for these two albums is still a mystery to this day! What IS known is that in May of 1971 Capitol Records unintentionally created an extreme rarity by halting the pressing of “Yesterday”… And Today in mere double digit numbers. The first documented copy of this Y&T gem was discovered in 2006 and is listed in Frank Daniels and Perry Cox’ Price Guide, published by Bruce Spizer. Amazingly, this happened 35 years after the pressing date! Actual item pictured, not a stock photo. All records are packed in a new record custom ordered mailing box (tested 200 lbs) with bubble wrap encasing. Double LPs & Box Sets. Additional charge per LP as indicated above. Additional charge per LP or 45 as indicated above. Over ten years of grading nearly a million albums, Shuga Records has developed a consistent – and conservative – method for objectively grading the condition of everything we sell. Operators are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Please leave a message if no one answers. We will get back to you as soon as possible. Beatles PROMO SLEEVE I-903 ASK ME WHY Extremely Rare NM
EP-I-903 “PROMO” Sleeve ONLY. “SOUVENIR OF THEIR FIRST VISIT TO AMERICA”. Issued in June of 1964. This Black & White title sleeve was issued with some later PROMOTIONAL COPIES of the EP VJEP 903. DJ2 as a part of a Vee Jay marketing campaign promoting their EP’s new lower price. ALL AUTHENTIC Original Sleeves OPEN FROM THE BOTTOM and are cut similar to other Vee Jay sleeves. If not, it is a counterfeit. To further plug “ASK ME WHY” , Vee Jay issued an extremely limited number of these sleeves as an experiment. As the decision was made to focus on a single song, it only featured. At single record prices. The sleeve also lists the phrase “STILL ONLY #8 IN SALES”. Although this experiment was a monumental flop for Vee Jay , this is still undoubtedly the rarest and most valuable of of all BEATLES record sleeves. (The exact number of sleeves is not known however experts have estimated that possibly 100 or less were ever issued). As you can see from the photos, although it is essentially and structural in MINT condition, it has yellowed somewhat which would only be expected for something constructed of WHITE paper that is now over 50 years old. There is only a slight hint of the existence of a ring impression from a record that originally was issued with it. It does not show up very well in the photos because when taking pictures of something WHITE , it is is difficult to see and focus clearly, however as a part of our full disclosure of its condition, we felt it necessary to mention this only flaw that does exist.
