Ruth Batchelor is most remembered for the songs she wrote for Elvis Presley, but she did put out a few records of her own. Principal seems to be the first one, recorded for Cameo-Parkway in 1962. This acetate sounds like her singing, but it’s clearly not the commercially released version, since it completely lacks the organ that dominates the 45. This is probably Ruth’s demo to submit to other artists. 10 78 rpm acetate is in nice VG+ shape, and plays through beautifully with light storage marks. The label shows that the title was originally I Want a Transfer, but it was changed by the time the enclosed lead sheet was created. It’s a fun girl-group style tune, arguably with even more energy than the 45.
