JAZZ BY SUN RA. This is a first pressing original. Of SUN RA 12 LP. Brainville (Sun Ra) 4:30. “Call for all Demons” (Sun Ra) 4:30. “Transition” (Sun Ra) 3:40. “Possession” (Harry Revel) 5:00. “Street Named Hell” (Sun Ra) 3:55. “Future” (Sun Ra) 3:15. (Sun Ra) 3:05. “Fall off the Log” (Sun Ra) 4:00. “Sun Song” (Sun Ra) 3:40. Jazz By Sun Ra is the debut album to be released by Sun Ra. The record label for the first pressing says “07-12-56″, presumably when it was recorded. The LP originally appeared on Tom Wilson’s short-lived Transition Records. VINYL CONDITION: VG+ to VG++. Vinyl lays nice and flat. Still has a very good shine with no scratches that I can see. There is two small scuffs (close together) on side B that have no effect on play. There is light surface / a random tick here or there with a few more ticks on Brainville that. Disappear before the song ends. For sure there is a clear sharp music image when I play tested this copy! This copy won’t. THE INNER GROOVES STAMPED: TRLP 10 A CR Side2. TRLP 10 B CR. THE INNER GROOVES ETCHED: 5N (on both Sides). Silver print is sharp & clear. Hard to see any spindle marks. Please check all pictures thoroughly. The front cover still has a high gloss sheen! Tiny nick at bottom left corner. No Split seams with some wear at the corners. Spine shows an extra nick (paper loss) to it. Back of jacket has faint crinkle to lower left. LP was in a curved clear plastic inner sleeve. Not a lot to say. Its all intact no creased pages, faint yellowing of paper. Julian Priester – Trombone , Percussion. John Gilmore – Tenor Sax , Percussion. Pat Patrick – Baratone Sax , Percussion. After the death of manager Brian Epstein, the Beatles took a series of rather poor turns, the first of which was the Magical Mystery Tour film. Conceived as a low-key art project, the Beatles were oddly nonchalant about the challenges of putting together a movie. They’d assembled records, they’d worked on A Hard Day’s Night and Help! How hard could it be? Without Epstein to advise, however, things like budgeting and time management became a challenge, and this understated experimental film turned into a sapping distraction. Musically, however, the accompanying EP was an overwhelming success. The EP format apparently freed the band to experiment a bit, not having to fill sides of a 45 with pop songs or make the grand statements of an album. The title track is a rousing set piece, meant to introduce the travelogue concept of the film. The remaining four songs released exclusive to the EP are low-key marvels– Paul McCartney’s graceful “The Fool on the Hill” and music-hall throwback “Your Mother Should Know”, George Harrison’s droning “Blue Jay Way”, and the percolating instrumental “Flying”. Few of them are anyone’s all-time favorite Beatles songs, only one had a prayer of being played on the radio, and yet this run seems to achieve a majesty in part because of that: It’s a rare stretch of amazing Beatles music that can seem like a private obsession rather than a permanent part of our shared culture. As a more laid-back release, the EP suggested the direction the band might have taken on the White Album had it remained a full band, happy to shed the outsized conceptualism and big statements and craft atmospheric, evocative pieces. The EP was paired with three recent double-sided singles, ballooning Magical Mystery Tour into an album– the only instance in which a U. Release, often mangled by Capitol, became Beatles canon. With only the EP’s title track married specifically to the film’s themes, the overall effect of a title track/album sleeve as shell game was in line with Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Of the three singles, the undisputed highlight is “Strawberry Fields Forever”/ “Penny Lane”, John Lennon and Paul McCartney’s tributes to their hometown, Liverpool. Slyly surreal, assisted by studio experimentation but not in debt to it, full of brass, harmonium, and strings, unmistakably English– when critics call eccentric or baroque UK pop bands “Beatlesesque, ” this is the closest there is to a root for that adjective. There is no definitive Beatles sound, of course, but with a band that now functions as much as a common, multi-generational language as a group of musicians, it’s no surprise that songs rooted in childhood– the one experience most likely to seem shared and have common touchpoints– are among their most universally beloved. The front has a cut-out window with clear acetate, on which the band photo is printed black half-tone. The disc is contained in a yellow radius corner liner, which provides a yellow background to the cover image when inserted into the sleeve. The back of the liner has a black-print’crucifix’ image. Discography About The Record. Woman is the sixth studio album by the American rock band the Doors, released on April 19, 1971, on Elektra Records. The album was the last to feature the group’s lead singer, Jim Morrison, who died three months after the album’s release. It saw the band continue to integrate elements of blues back into their music, a direction that they had begun with their previous album, Morrison Hotel. In addition, it saw long-time record producer Paul A. Rothchild depart, after a fallout over the band’s performance in the studio. After his departure the band co-produced the album with sound engineer, Bruce Botnick. Appears to be from Iowa but recorded the record in Nebraska. This is only the second time I have found this EP and I’ve been digging/dealing in Nebraska/Iowa for almost 25 years. I have covered most of the credits on the back cover in case the winner wishes to try to track down the band (I have not but I don’t believe there are any copies at the source or copies would have popped up by now).
