David Bowie – A New Career In A New Town (1977 – 1982) is the third in a series of box sets spanning his career from 1969 and the follow-up to the awarding winning and critically acclaimed David Bowie – Five Years (1969 – 1973) and David Bowie – Who Can I Be Now? This 13 LP box set features features all of the material officially released by David Bowie between 1977 and 1982 including all four studio albums (Low, Heroes, Lodger and Scary Monsters), his 1978 live album Stage in both original and expanded track listings, the newly compiled Heroes E. Collecting together both the German and French long and single versions of “Heroes”, and the exclusive new compilation of single versions, non-album singles and B-sides, Re: Call 3. Also included exclusively is a brand-new remix of the 1979 album Lodger by long time Bowie producer/collaborator Tony Visconti. This 46 years old acetate comes from a major collection, acquired from an RCA executive (certified original). Tracks are mostly unreleased at the time. A1 Velvet Goldmine (309). A2 Holy Holy (220). Acetates are not like pressed vinyl records. They are made of an aluminium plate coated with a cellulose-based lacquer and processed directly from the master tape using a cutting lathe. They are expensive and fragile, and cutting requires time and expertise. Three types of acetates exist. Studio/Playback acetates , usually cut during the recording sessions to evaluate the song or for the manager to look for a record label or transfer as demo samples to existing record company for evaluation/feedback. These often contain alternate versions and usually only a handful are cut. Mastering/Reference acetates , usually cut at the record company for internal evaluation purposes. These sometimes contain alternate mixes or previously unreleaed material (like this one); and. Production acetates , these are cut to produce the stampers/matrices, thus contain finished songs as released and most are destroyed during the process. Live At Pompeii is the project from David Gilmour, and follows his critically acclaimed studio album Rattle That Lock from September of 2015. Following the release of Rattle That Lock in 2015, David Gilmour set out to play a series of concerts in historic venues across the world. On July 7th and 8th, 2016, David Gilmour performed two spectacular shows at the legendary Pompeii Amphitheatre in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, 45 years after he first played there for Adrian Mabens classic film Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii. The concerts were the first-ever rock performances played to an audience in the ancient Roman amphitheater, which was built in 90 BC and entombed in ash when Vesuvius erupted in AD 79. David Gilmour is the only performer to play to an audience in the arena since the time of the gladiators, almost 2,000 years ago. Speaking about the Pompeii shows David Gilmour commented It’s a magical place and coming back and seeing the stage and the arena was quite overwhelming. It’s a place of ghosts… Includes songs from throughout David’s career including the title tracks of his two most recent #1 solo albums: Rattle That Lock and On An Island. Also included are other solo and Pink Floyd classics such as Wish You Were Here, Comfortably Numb and One Of These Days, the only song that was also performed by the band in 1971. Both concerts also saw extraordinary performances of The Great Gig In The Sky from The Dark Side Of The Moon, which David rarely plays as a solo artist. The concert performance film, David Gilmour Live at Pompeii, was shot in 4k by director Gavin Elder and includes highlights from both shows. The concert is a spectacular audio-visual experience, featuring the famous huge circular cyclorama screen as well as lasers, pyrotechnics and stellar performances from an all-star band.
