Presto Recorder 1937 J-5 vinyl record lathe. Item is listed As-Is, not working, not tested, for parts or repair. That said, you can see it working listed As Is, not working. Not tested in this video cutting vinyl 78 RPM live in real time no editing, In the video you can see the VU meter working in unison with the live guitar playing, using the original microphone. You also can see the record lathe head cutting grooves into the vinyl and see the string of vinyl being pulled off during cutting, check it out here… The play back can be seen here, A few things to mention, playback is on a crappy cheap portable phonograph turntable, the only turntable I had that could play 78’s. Also using the original microphone, a modern microphone would be better sound quality. Anyway, check it out here.. This unit comes with a copy of the owners manual which details the vacuum tubes. The unit comes with all new vacuum tubes installed. The unit comes with a brand new needle/never used. Also included are 3 pvc record blanks. The motor works listed As Is, not working. Not tested and has original rubber drive belt. If you know anything about these type of old machines or new to them, their volume and tone control knobs need to be cleaned, an investment into “amplifier pot spray” and use will enhance the sound quality, be sure to turn knobs whiles spraying. The Presto K-6 was used to record the Hindenberg Disaster, These units were what was used to record anything before Reel to Reel tape – these units are very rare vinyl recorders.
