The freewheelin’ BOB DYLAN withdrawn CL 19861A matrix LP

The rarest – and most sought after – of all Bob Dylan albums. That’s right – this is the 1A matrix pressing which plays the four tracks that were withdrawn. It is NOT the Canadian pressing or timing strip issue which list the deleted tracks but play the standard cuts. The labels and cover here show the replacement tracks – which is consistent with the few other mono copies that have turned up over the past fifty years. However, check the picture which shows the vinyl for Side 1: the middle track is “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall”, and you should be able to see it is the widest band, since it is the longest song. On standard copies of this record, that track is sequenced last in the #6 position. VINYL CONDITION: visually VG+ In regular room light, surface appears very clean with no serious defects. Under 100 watt bulb, one can see a number of light marks, some people describe as hairline or spidery, so there is evidence that record was played, as pretty much all copies of this popular album were, but not abused. There are no feelable scratches or marks that tick, pop, skip, stick, or thump. The cover is in excellent shape for this issue. There is minimal wear on front, and print on spine is not exactly centered due to how flat was glued in original manufacture. Hear for yourself as we have uploaded sound files for the tracks. Occasionally there is some kind of surface noise, but it is minimal and the fidelity is remarkable, I suppose due to being such an early and limited pressing. Blowin’ in the Wind. I Shall Be Free. HERE IS THE STORY: last summer August 2015, a friend of mine was visiting his brother-in-law. They got to talking about old records, and the brother-in-law mentioned that he had a Dylan album that he remembered there was something unusual about. So they got it out and played it, and, sure enough, the songs did not match those printed on the label. Lo and behold, this legendary anomaly had been sitting on the guy’s shelf for more than 50 years. Fewer than a couple dozen have ever surfaced. And though skeptical at first, there was the photographic proof. I think all serious record nuts have heard of it – I had an old Goldmine GUIDE TO COLLECTIBLE RECORD ALBUMS by Neal Umphred from 1994 which has an article entitled, “The World’s Most Valuable Album”. So I have been researching for months, talking and emailing with nationally known Dylan and record experts. It was finally decided to put this one on consignment with me and list in conjunction with Bob’s 75th who woulda thunk it? Unless they discover a box of these hidden away in the Columbia catacombs, this copy will someday sell for more than whatever is paid today – the owner may change his mind and hold on for posterity. If you are looking for cds, go to the cd category. M: Generally reserved for sealed records, but may be used for an opened record with absolutely no evidence of play M-: May have no marks or a couple very light marks, which would not be noticed except for extremely close inspection, and which will not affect play. EX: May have a few very light marks which are nearly invisible and most likely do not sound. VG+: May have some visible light marks but no feelable scratches. May play with a minimum of noise during quiet passages. Note: items posted in the past may have slightly different grading abbreviations; however the old “NM” is the same as “M” defined above, “NM-” equals “M-“, etc. Please note that grades are visual. It seems to me that play-grading is even more subjective and entails other variables, such as the sensitivity of one’s equipment. I have not listened to many of these records but will try to upon request. There is not a huge amount of difference between M/M-/EX. As anyone who has handled a lot of used records knows, some play better than they look and VICE VERSA. GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THIS BOX. The Beatles: The Collection was a vinyl boxed set of every Beatles album remastered at half speed from the original stereo master recordings, except for Magical Mystery Tour which was mastered from Capitol Records’ submasters with the last three tracks in rechanneled stereo. Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MFSL) pressed a second run of the Beatles Boxed Set for a total production run of 25,000 over the next two years or until October 1985. Each album was pressed on black vinyl by the Victor Company of Japan. The album covers were replaced with photographs of tape boxes and log sheet. The original album covers were included in a booklet which also featured a certificate of authenticity as this was a limited edition collection. Missing from this collection were all of the Beatles’ singles, extended Play and a few miscellaneous tracks that did not appear on their original UK albums. Please Please Me – MFSL1-101. The Beatles – MFSL2-072 (2 LPs). Yellow Submarine – MFSL1-108. Abbey Road – MFSL1-023. Let It Be – MFSL1-109. The Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (or MFSL) Beatles Box set was released in 1982 (exact date unknown to me, either October or November). It’s official name is “The Beatles/ The Collection” and it’s catalogue number is MFSL BC-1. Before the box set, MFSL had already released three of the Beatles LPs as individual items. The first was “Abbey Road” either on December 1979 or January 1980. The process for the discs included using the master tapes (when available) and then utilizing “half-speed” mastering of the laquers. This was then pressed onto “super vinyl” when sent from California (MFSL headquarters) to the Yokohama factory of the Victor company in Japan in order to fabricate the metal masters and the press the records. This “super vinyl” was transparent when held up to light and was heavy vinyl and harder than regular vinyl in order to establish the best sound possible. The master tape used for “Abbey Road” was actually the Capitol sub-masters and not the original from Abbey Road. The second Beatles LP from MFSL was “Magical Mystery Tour”. The master used for this project was actually from EMI but this version originated from Capitol and was used by EMI for the 1970s re-issue. This didn’t make much sense when considering that this version contained second generation stereo for eight songs and fake (duophonic) stereo for three songs. This second release was put out on February 01 1981. The third Beatles LP from MFSL was “The Beatles (White Album)” issued on January 07 1982. The master tapes used for this project were also sub-masters from Capitol. The box set was then released. The remaining 10 LPs were as follows: “Please Please Me” (using the original master tape from EMI), “With The Beatles” (also using the original master tape from EMI) “A Hard Day’s Night” (also using the original master tape from EMI), “Beatles For Sale” (using a re-mix from the four track tape), Help! ” (using a re-mix tape), “Rubber Soul” (using a re-mix tape), “Revolver” (using the original master tape from EMI), “Sgt. Pepper” (using a re-mix tape), “Yellow Submarine” (using a re-mix tape) and “Let It Be (using a corrected copy tape). It is also interesting to note that “Pepper” in this set does not contain the recording of the high frequency or the “inner groove”. The box set also includes a “Geo-Disc” which is a 12 inch plastic platter used to align and set your stylus and cartridge to a transcription deck! It is reported that 25,000 copies of this box set were released. Starting in June 1984, the rest of the Beatles LPs were released individually as the remainder of the “Original Master Recordings” series start with “Rubber Soul”. One anomaly is the version of “With The Beatles” as an individual MFSL record, it is rarer than the others due to the fact that a damaged metal part for the recording ensured it had a very limited run. This is a 1960’s release of Bob Dylan’s First Lp! This came from a small town Mom & Pop record store, from my hometown. As you can see by the sticker this came from Zulch Record Store. One half of the store was a Camera Store (this opened in early 1950’s) and the other half was a Hi-Fi Record Store (this was added mid 1950’s). Both closed in 1970.
