Own a piece of the Revolution. As a Beatles collector, one can strive to obtain many notable piecesfirst pressings, ticket stubs, or perhaps even a First-State Butcher Cover and then there are those pieces that are so exceptional and historically important that they are scarcely seen on the market. This is one of those pieces. If you want to own a piece of history for your man (or woman) cave, read on. Up for sale is an extremely rare and significant piece of Beatles memorabilia. This record and its follow up, a promotional for the second album, were never offered for sale to the public. Though copies of the second promotional are available from time to time, this record has not been featured for sale more than twice (if that) in the last 8 years. Given the nature of this record, a used copy is more likely to have been broadcast on the airwaves during the British Invasion, and subsequently thrown out by the radio station. The Open-End Interview records have attained a near-mythical status for those who know of them, as unlike most any other piece of Beatles memorabilia, they were directly responsible for the success of the band. In February 1964, Beatles music populated the airwaves. In anticipation of The Beatles arrival in America, more than 70 million Americans tuned in to see the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show. This now iconic appearance paved the way for the British Invasion as Beatlemania swept across the country, and marked the beginning of the lasting influence that the Beatles had (and continue to have) on music. To promote the Beatles arrival in America, Capitol Records produced a promotional record containing 3 singles and an interview with all four Beatles. Released in early February 1964, this record was not offered for sale; it was distributed to radio stations for airplay use only. For the Interview, the DJ would ask questions provided on a script, and the Beatles would answer the DJ. For many listeners, it was their first exposure to the Beatles. The second Open-End Interview record is available for sale here. Had you heard the Beatles being played on the radio in that window of time before their appearance on Ed Sullivan, you might have been listening to this very record. The record has clearly been used. More than likely, these were used in the original broadcasts. A must have for the serious collector. The record comes with a high-quality, custom made frame, with a placard detailing its importance. I doubt that you will see another one again anytime soon. If you’re interested, the Interview can be read in its entirety at beatlesinterviews. Com , along with a brief history of the record.
