Released on Tupelo Records TUPLP6 in 1989. The matrix etchings are MPO (crossed out) TUPLP6 A1 & MPO (crossed out) TUPLP6 B1 in the run outs. The condition of the record is very good (has a manufacturing fault mark which causes some surface noise on’Scoff’ &’Floyd The Barber’). The sleeve has a 1.5 inch scuff on top edge. The labels are clean with a couple of very mild light spindle marks. A UK original Nirvana holy grail! 2x LP/ 12 / 10 are charged as per additional items. This pressing is the transluscent vinyl and looks reddish / purple when held against a light. It has the Garrod & Lofthouse textured sleeve & the matrices read FACT 10 – INSIDE 1 A A PORKY PRIME CUT 1 STEP & A PORKY PRIME CUT FACT 10- OUTSIDE – 1 B 1 THIS IS THE WAY. Released on Factory Records FACT10. The condition of the record is excellent ++. The outer sleeve has very mild ringwear, very mild storage wear & very mild creasing on the edges. The inner sleeve has very mild ringwear & a couple of very mild & light pink spots. The labels are clean with no spindle marks. An almost perfect example of this highly prized 1st pressing & one of the best I have ever seen! 2x LP / 12/ 10 are charged as per additional items. It was the summer of 1964, and it had been a whole three months!!! Since a new Beatles album from Capitol Records — The Beatles’ Second Album, assembled from various sources — had been released to eager U. Fans (and topped the charts). In the meantime, in addition to doing a tour of the U. The group had released their debut movie, A Hard Day’s Night — but the U. Rights to the soundtrack were owned by United Artists Records (that was, in fact, the basis for United Artists’ original interest in producing the movie), which had duly released its soundtrack in late June (and saw it top the charts). Capitol didn’t have the soundtrack rights, but it was allowed to use most of the songs from the film; and as it turned out, the Beatles had delivered as fine a body of songs for the movie as they had for any of their albums up to that point — songs that, as Capitol executives soon discovered, worked just as well in their combination. And so Something New was released about a month after UA’s soundtrack, and if it wasn’t as strong as the two preceding U. Albums, in any other context and circumstance it would have been a contender for best rock & roll album of the year. Grouped alongside the band’s hard-rocking, first-rate covers of Carl Perkins’ “Matchbox” and Larry Williams’ “Slow Down, ” and topped out with their German-language rendition of “I Want to Hold Your Hand” (“Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand”), which probably couldn’t fit anywhere else, the Hard Day’s Night material sounded fine, and few fans seemed to mind paying twice for the songs that overlapped between the two albums. And no one seemed to notice that this is where the 11-song Beatles’ album comes into being, Capitol reasoning out that their material was so strong that they could get away with shaving off one track from the standard dozen, which became routine in the two years of U. Created releases that followed. Actually, outside of the context of the film for which they were written and recorded, the Hard Day’s Night material showed a remarkable growth in the band’s range and sound in just a few months. George Harrison’s 12-string Rickenbacker guitar, which was the group’s biggest sonic innovation in the movie score, was a little reduced in profile without the movie’s title track on hand, but it was still present, as was an unprecedented (for a rock & roll group) reliance on acoustic guitar sounds (“And I Love Her, ” “If I Fell”), and a range of ballads that showed greater emotional depth and seriousness than had been heard from too many rock & roll bands in 1964. After the death of manager Brian Epstein, the Beatles took a series of rather poor turns, the first of which was the Magical Mystery Tour film. Conceived as a low-key art project, the Beatles were oddly nonchalant about the challenges of putting together a movie. They’d assembled records, they’d worked on A Hard Day’s Night and Help! How hard could it be? Without Epstein to advise, however, things like budgeting and time management became a challenge, and this understated experimental film turned into a sapping distraction. Musically, however, the accompanying EP was an overwhelming success. The EP format apparently freed the band to experiment a bit, not having to fill sides of a 45 with pop songs or make the grand statements of an album. The title track is a rousing set piece, meant to introduce the travelogue concept of the film. The remaining four songs released exclusive to the EP are low-key marvels– Paul McCartney’s graceful “The Fool on the Hill” and music-hall throwback “Your Mother Should Know”, George Harrison’s droning “Blue Jay Way”, and the percolating instrumental “Flying”. Few of them are anyone’s all-time favorite Beatles songs, only one had a prayer of being played on the radio, and yet this run seems to achieve a majesty in part because of that: It’s a rare stretch of amazing Beatles music that can seem like a private obsession rather than a permanent part of our shared culture. As a more laid-back release, the EP suggested the direction the band might have taken on the White Album had it remained a full band, happy to shed the outsized conceptualism and big statements and craft atmospheric, evocative pieces. The EP was paired with three recent double-sided singles, ballooning Magical Mystery Tour into an album– the only instance in which a U. Release, often mangled by Capitol, became Beatles canon. With only the EP’s title track married specifically to the film’s themes, the overall effect of a title track/album sleeve as shell game was in line with Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Of the three singles, the undisputed highlight is “Strawberry Fields Forever”/ “Penny Lane”, John Lennon and Paul McCartney’s tributes to their hometown, Liverpool. Slyly surreal, assisted by studio experimentation but not in debt to it, full of brass, harmonium, and strings, unmistakably English– when critics call eccentric or baroque UK pop bands “Beatlesesque, ” this is the closest there is to a root for that adjective. There is no definitive Beatles sound, of course, but with a band that now functions as much as a common, multi-generational language as a group of musicians, it’s no surprise that songs rooted in childhood– the one experience most likely to seem shared and have common touchpoints– are among their most universally beloved. The front has a cut-out window with clear acetate, on which the band photo is printed black half-tone. The disc is contained in a yellow radius corner liner, which provides a yellow background to the cover image when inserted into the sleeve. The back of the liner has a black-print’crucifix’ image. Discography About The Record. Woman is the sixth studio album by the American rock band the Doors, released on April 19, 1971, on Elektra Records. The album was the last to feature the group’s lead singer, Jim Morrison, who died three months after the album’s release. It saw the band continue to integrate elements of blues back into their music, a direction that they had begun with their previous album, Morrison Hotel. In addition, it saw long-time record producer Paul A. Rothchild depart, after a fallout over the band’s performance in the studio. After his departure the band co-produced the album with sound engineer, Bruce Botnick. Upon release, the album peaked at number nine on the Billboard 200 and reached number 28 on the UK Albums Charts It was preceded by “Love Her Madly” single in March 1971, which reached the Top 20 in the Billboard Hot 100. An additional single in support of the album, “Riders on the Storm”, was also released to success on the Billboard singles charts, and managed to chart in the UK Singles Chart. Music critics Richie Unterberger and David Quantick have both noted that L. Woman is arguably one of the Doors’ best albums, citing Morrison’s unwavering enthusiasm in his vocal performance, and the band’s stripped-down return to their blues rock roots. Been Down So Long.
