The Wall is the eleventh studio album by the English progressive rock band Pink Floyd. It is the last studio album released with the classic lineup of guitarist David Gilmour, bassist/lyricist Roger Waters, keyboardist Richard Wright and drummer Nick Mason before Wright left the band. Released as a double album on 30 November 1979, it was supported by a tour with elaborate theatrical effects, and adapted into a 1982 feature film, Pink Floyd The Wall. The album features the band’s only number one single Another Brick in the Wall part 2. As with Pink Floyd’s previous three albums, The Wall is a concept album and explores themes of abandonment and personal isolation. The album is a rock opera that follows Pink, a character whom Waters modelled after himself and the band’s original leader, Syd Barrett. Pink’s life begins with the loss of his father during the Second World War and continues with abuse from his schoolteachers, an overprotective mother, and the breakdown of his marriage; all contribute to his eventual self-imposed isolation from society, represented by a metaphorical wall. Waters conceived the album during Pink Floyd’s 1977 In the Flesh Tour, when his frustration with the audience became so acute that he imagined a wall between the audience and the stage. The Wall features a harsher and more theatrical style than Pink Floyd’s previous albums. Wright left the band during its production but remained as a salaried musician, performing with Pink Floyd during the Wall tour. 1 RARE RECORD SHOP. PINK FLOYD – Dark Side Of The Moon UK 1st Press Solid Blue Triangle. This is a first pressing of “Dark side of the moon” by Pink Floyd, from 1973, Harvest. SHVL 804, A-2/ B-2. GDT stampers on the A-side, -1 at 6’o clock on the b-side. This original solid prism issue had a pressing fault on many copies that led to a skip. The cover has some two light marks on the front cover, one on the rear and a little wear. To the extreme corners. The spines are all clean, as is the inner gatefold. Black inner sleeve has a few creases but no tears or splits. The two original posters have. Never been used, the two original stickers are both clean. The labels show a few spindle marks and a little wear when held to the light. Surface looks very clean in natural light, even when held to strong light there are only. Very few and very light hairlines visible, , no heavy marks at all. Clearly played, but still in. Excellent condition and still demonstrating the wonderfully bright full sound that makes. This first pressing so sought after. Play testing it there is some light background at the beginning of the first track and the odd tick further into the first track. The rest of side one is pretty background free, the odd tick here and there, certainly no persistent hiss or crackle associated with heavy play. The B-side is virtually free of any noticeable background until the very last few seconds (as the last track fades). Superb record and sleeve. Packaging was of the highest quality. The record was in much better condition than I expected. Packaged using high quality card mailers with extra card stiffeners. Grading – As in Record Collector guide – Strict and guaranteed. Photos show actual record for sale. Soundclips are from actual record for sale.
