The Wall is the eleventh studio album by the English progressive rock band Pink Floyd. The most immediately noticeable aspect of… And Justice for All isn’t Metallica’s still-growing compositional sophistication or the apocalyptic lyrical portrait of a society in decay. It’s the weird, bone-dry production. It’s a shame that the cold, flat sound obscures some of the sonic details, because… And Justice for All is Metallica’s most complex, ambitious work; every song is an expanded suite, with only two of the nine tracks clocking in at under six minutes. It takes a while to sink in, but given time… And Justice for All reveals some of Metallica’s best material. It also reveals the band’s determination to pull out all the compositional stops, throwing in extra sections, odd-numbered time signatures, and dense webs of guitar arpeggios and harmonized leads. At times, it seems like they’re doing it simply because they can; parts of the album lack direction and probably should have been trimmed for momentum’s sake. Pacing-wise, the album again loosely follows the blueprint of Ride the Lightning, though not as closely as Master of Puppets. This time around, the fourth song — once again a ballad with a thrashy chorus and outro — gave the band one of the unlikeliest Top 40 singles in history; “One” was an instant metal classic, based on Dalton Trumbo’s antiwar novel Johnny Got His Gun and climaxing with a pulverizing machine-gun imitation. As a whole, opinions on… And Justice for All remain somewhat divided: some think it’s a slightly flawed masterpiece and the pinnacle of Metallica’s progressive years; others see it as bloated and overambitious. Either interpretation can be readily supported, but the band had clearly taken this direction as far as it could. The difficulty of reproducing these songs in concert eventually convinced Metallica that it was time for an overhaul. And Justice For All. Eye Of The Beholder. The Frayed Ends Of Sanity. Discography About The Record. Woman is the sixth studio album by the American rock band the Doors, released on April 19, 1971, on Elektra Records. The album was the last to feature the group’s lead singer, Jim Morrison, who died three months after the album’s release. It saw the band continue to integrate elements of blues back into their music, a direction that they had begun with their previous album, Morrison Hotel. Discography About The Record. A tribute to the dearly departed Duane, Eat a Peach rambles through two albums, running through a side of new songs, recorded post-Duane, spending a full album on live cuts from the Fillmore East sessions, then offering a round of studio tracks Duane completed before his death. On the first side, they do suggest the mellowness of the Dickey Betts-led Brothers and Sisters, particularly on the lovely “Melissa, ” and this stands in direct contrast with the monumental live cuts that dominate the album. They’re at the best on the punchier covers of “One Way Out” and “Trouble No More, ” both proof of the group’s exceptional talents as a roadhouse blues-rock band, but Duane does get his needed showcase on “Mountain Jam, ” a sprawling 33-minute jam that may feature a lot of great playing, but is certainly a little hard for anyone outside of diehards to sit through. Please research that and see for yourself — the stickers from the 70’s are completely different in terms of shape, font, color, etc. Where the shrink is ripped on the back, I’ve felt the cover texture — it’s matte and textured like art paper but of course heavy (it’s a gatefold cover by the way). One reason why fans may want to pick this up is that the British release on the Island label was messed up because of misaligned recording heads, and they corrected this as best they could for the American release on Atlantic.
