Every recording was selected by a distinguished panel of music authorities. The library was first announced on the 100th anniversary of Thomas Edisons invention of the phonograph. Each recorded treasure was pressed with a special vinyl formulation that enabled a clear, quiet playing surface on a more rigid LP disk. Every record was pressed in an atmosphere controlled clean room. There are 50 library cases. Each library case houses two proof-quality long playing records, with each record resting, fully protected, within its own dust free compartment. The record is firmly supported within the closed compartment in such a way that the grooved playing surface never touches any part of the case. Each library case includes a specially written and illustrated commentary, by a respected music expert. The composers and their works are discussed in detail, and background information is provided on the orchestras, conductors, ensembles, and featured soloists. This is a truly unsurpassed private library of recorded music. All 50 boxes have been. Opened but they are all in excellent condition, the only sign of age they show is on the corner of the insert booklets that have slight sun fade from being displayed on a shelf (shown in the pictures) otherwise they are all in excellent / near mint condition. ORIGINAL 10 INCH LP. Before “Rock Around The Clock” (recorded April 12, 1954) and Elvis’ “That’s All Right” (recorded July 5, 1954), Hank Ballard and The Midnighters recorded “Work with Me Annie” (January 14, 1954). Despite or because of its salacious lyrics, it was immediately successful in the R&B market charting for 7 weeks. That particular song was The Midnighters’ answer to Etta James’ “answer song” to The Midnighters, (Dance With Me Henry). Which became her first hit earlier that year. Several of these early Midnighters’ hits were banned from airplay by the F. Due to their overtly sexual lyrics. However, despite this, they received massive publicity, and crossed over to the white teenage audience, resulting in massive crossover sales. The sleeve of this copy is a 2.0 good and presents well despite the full splits at both the top and bottom seams and a light ring mark from a glass that can only been seen at an angle in the light. The record is visually 2.0 good with heavy surface scratching and only scratch on side 2 last cut that is slightly detectable by touch.
