The Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers A4/B4 1st Press UK Withdrawn Gatefold Vinyl Record COC 59100 Zip. Released on 23rd April 1971, the serious collectors will know this is a first pressing A4/B4. Pressed before the album was released from first generation lacquers. The condition of the vinyl speaks for itself, just beautiful. All first pressings of this album have T. ROLLING STONES RECORDS hand-etched in the runout grooves (The Mastering Lab). Later pressings were not pressed there and suffer from a far less dymanic sound. There is a world of difference in the soundscape once compared to any other pressing. It is subtle but definitive. The sleeve has aged very well indeed for a 1971 album. The zipper is small and square as it should be. The following iteration was the round PAN zipper. The insert here is German. Of course what makes this item somewhat of a holy grail piece is its original and hastily withdrawn gatefold sleeve. Very few escaped and less so, exist in this condition. If youre after this pressing with gatefold, I very much doubt youll find a better example for some time. Sad to let this go. In fact Im quite happy to have it framed! Side B – You Can’t Always Get What You Want. On 1 November, ABKCO Records will release the Rolling Stones Let It Bleed (50th Anniversary Limited Deluxe Edition) as a 2LP/ 2 HybridSuper Audio CD set. Its a lavish new edition of the groundbreaking and multi-platinum album, which went to No. 1 in the UK and No. 3 in the US on its first release late in 1969. The new edition was entirely remastered in both stereo and mono by Bob Ludwig at Gateway Mastering. The set features a reproduction of the 1969 7 mono picture sleeve single Honky Tonk Women/You Cant Always Get What You Want. That single was first released four months ahead of Let It Bleed, and went to No. 1 on both sides of the Atlantic. Honky Tonk Women was reprised on the album with a country flavour as Country Honk. Three 12 x 12 hand-numbered replica-signed lithographs are also featured, printed on embossed archival paper, as well as a full colour 23 x 23 poster, with restored artwork from the Decca Records package of 1969. The deluxe edition also has an 80-page hardcover book with an essay by music writer David Fricke, who observes in the notes: No other rock & roll album of the late Sixties so embodiedthe contradictions, turbulence of its time, creation and the bandthan Let It Bleed. There are also never-before-seen photos by the Stones tour photographer Ethan Russell. Let It Bleed will also be available as a stand-alone CD, vinyl LP, and digitally. Says Ludwig, who has mastered or remastered many other Stones albums: When we did the first Let It Bleed remaster in 2002, our intention was to pay homage to the original work. When we did this new version, the purpose was to make it as great as it could possibly sound. If you listen on a good set of speakers or good headphones, youll hear subtle things in the background that are now much more clear that were somewhat hidden before. The new edition faithfully reproduces the work of graphic designer Robert Brownjohn, whose original sketches for the Let It Bleed cover depict random round items on the spindle of an antique record player. They included a cake with figurines representing the members of the band. The sketches are on two 12 x 12 lithographs, hand numbered, replica-signed and printed on embossed archival paper. The set is completed by a third lithograph of the final art, without its titles, in a foil-stamped envelope. Brownjohn died less than a year after the albums release of the album, and his estate has granted ABKCO exclusive use to manufacture his images and signature. The 50th anniversary release also has a reproduction of the full colour, 23 x 23 poster that accompanied Deccas original 1969 UK release of the album. Housed in a gorgeous hard-case wooden box with The Rolling Stones engraved in red and a nice ball-lock to close it up when not in use. All LP’s are housed in thick individual red sleeves with a thicker cardboard sleeve AND inner poly-sleeves. Felt box bottom so it stays firm and does not scratch any surface. Includes The “Geo-Disc”, an LP-sized precision cartridge alignment system, housed in custom sleeve in its own cover. Still after all these years, THE final word on Rolling Stones re-issue pressings. Includes these classic albums: The Rolling Stones, 12 x 5, Out Of Our Heads, Aftermath, Between The Buttons, Their Satanic Majesties Request, Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed and Get Yer Ya’s Ya’s OutHot Rocks (2 LP’s). The original master Rolling Stones tapes, from which the music in THE ROLLING STONES collection was transferred, were meticulously tracked-down by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab in both England and America. Altogether, more than 60 boxes of recording tapes were examined and auditioned, until the genuine original masters were discovered. The first three albums (“The Rolling Stones”, “12×5″, and “Out Of Our Heads”) were originally recorded in the Mono format, while the next six albums were recorded in true Stereo. “Hot Rocks” is a compilation of Mono and Stereo tracks that MFSL transferred from the original master tapes… Carefully spliced together by MFSL’s engineers who exclusively utilized the original (British) Decca master recording tapes, except for “12×5″ and “Out Of Our Heads”, which were originally recorded in America and first released by London Records. Every album has been lovingly remastered and cut at revelatory half-speed at Abbey Road Studios, from vinyl specific original tape transfers designed to get the very best possibly sound from the format. Each album is pressed on heavyweight 180-gram black vinyl and includes a download card for HD digital redemption of the catalogue and includes a numbered certificate of authentication. Cut at half speed, these are among the highest quality vinyl pressings that these classic Rolling Stones albums will have ever received. Half speed mastering and pressed to a very high standard ensures top notch sound quality for the listener. Special care has been taken to create packaging to the same high standards, with detailed artwork reproduction for each album including Some Girls, which comes housed in the replica design including 20 cut-outs on the cover, while the sleeve of Sticky Fingers is presented as Andy Warhols original design, complete with a working zip with a hidden image underneath and Exile On Main Street comes with a set of 12 original postcard inserts. Abbey Road Studios engineers have been cutting grooves into discs since the studios first opened in 1931. In 2013, award-winning engineer Miles Showell joined their existing mastering team, bringing a wealth of disc-cutting experience with him. One of the artisan techniques offered by Abbey Road Studios that results in the very highest quality sound reproduction is Half Speed Cutting. This process involves the master source being played back at precisely half its recorded speed while the cutting lathe is similarly turned at half the desired playback speed. This allows the cutting head twice the time to cut the intricate groove, allowing considerably more accuracy with important matters such as frequency extremes and micro-dynamic contrasts. The resulting cuts have excellent high frequency response (treble) and very solid and stable stereo images. Its not quite as simple as running everything at half rate. There is an EQ curve applied to all vinyl records and by running the lathe at half speed, all the frequencies are wrong. However, the technical staff at Abbey Road Studios have had new custom-built filters installed which allow Miles to practice half speed cutting to the full on a modified Neumann VMS-80 lathe.
