Ringo Starrs Dont Pass Me By marked his first solo songwriting credit on a Beatles album. For 50 years, The White Album has invited its listeners to venture forth and explore the breadth and ambition of its music, delighting and inspiring each new generation in turn. On November 9, The Beatles will release a suite of lavishly presented White Album packages Apple Corps Ltd. The albums 30 tracks are newly mixed by producer Giles Martin and mix engineer Sam Okell in stereo and 5.1 surround audio, joined by 27 early acoustic demos and 50 session takes, most of which are previously unreleased in any form. The Beatles newly adopted method of recording all through the night was time consuming and exhausting for their producer, George Martin. After the first three months of White Album sessions, Martin took a three-week holiday from the studio, entrusting the control room to his young assistant Chris Thomas and balance engineer Ken Scott. Scott had taken the place of engineer Geoff Emerick, who left the sessions in mid-July. On August 22, Ringo Starr also left the sessions, returning 11 days later to find his drum kit adorned with flowers from his bandmates. While the sessions four and a half months of long hours and many takes did spark occasional friction in the studio, the session recordings reveal the closeness, camaraderie, and collaborative strengths within the band, as well as with George Martin. We had left Sgt. Peppers band to play in his sunny Elysian Fields and were now striding out in new directions without a map, says Paul McCartney in his written introduction for the new White Album releases. This is the first time The BEATLES (White Album) has been remixed and presented with additional demos and session recordings. The albums sweeping new edition follows 2017s universally acclaimed Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band Anniversary Edition releases. To create the new stereo and 5.1 surround audio mixes for The White Album, Martin and Okell worked with an expert team of engineers and audio restoration specialists at Abbey Road Studios in London. All the new White Album releases include Martins new stereo album mix, sourced directly from the original four-track and eight-track session tapes. Martins new mix is guided by the albums original stereo mix produced by his father, George Martin. In remixing The White Album, weve tried to bring you as close as possible to The Beatles in the studio, explains Giles Martin in his written introduction for the new edition. It is the first installment in the Dylan bootleg series, comprising material spanning the first three decades of his career, from 1961 to 1991. It has been certified with a gold record by the RIAA as of August 1997, and peaked at #49 on the Billboard 200 and #32 in the UK. Released in 1991 to satisfy enormous demand for Dylan’s much-bootlegged unissued material, it contains rarities and unreleased works from the sessions for 1962’s eponymous debut Bob Dylan to 1989’s Oh Mercy. Live At Pompeii is the project from David Gilmour, and follows his critically acclaimed studio album Rattle That Lock from September of 2015. Following the release of Rattle That Lock in 2015, David Gilmour set out to play a series of concerts in historic venues across the world. On July 7th and 8th, 2016, David Gilmour performed two spectacular shows at the legendary Pompeii Amphitheatre in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, 45 years after he first played there for Adrian Mabens classic film Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii. The concerts were the first-ever rock performances played to an audience in the ancient Roman amphitheater, which was built in 90 BC and entombed in ash when Vesuvius erupted in AD 79. David Gilmour is the only performer to play to an audience in the arena since the time of the gladiators, almost 2,000 years ago. Speaking about the Pompeii shows David Gilmour commented It’s a magical place and coming back and seeing the stage and the arena was quite overwhelming. It’s a place of ghosts… Includes songs from throughout David’s career including the title tracks of his two most recent #1 solo albums: Rattle That Lock and On An Island. Also included are other solo and Pink Floyd classics such as Wish You Were Here, Comfortably Numb and One Of These Days, the only song that was also performed by the band in 1971. Both concerts also saw extraordinary performances of The Great Gig In The Sky from The Dark Side Of The Moon, which David rarely plays as a solo artist. The concert performance film, David Gilmour Live at Pompeii, was shot in 4k by director Gavin Elder and includes highlights from both shows. The concert is a spectacular audio-visual experience, featuring the famous huge circular cyclorama screen as well as lasers, pyrotechnics and stellar performances from an all-star band.
