THE BEATLES/KENNY EVERETT, ABBEY ROAD 6th JUNE 1968 – RARE UK 10 EMIDISC ACETATE. This is a very rare and 100% authentic 10 one sided UK Emidisc Acetate which contains the full interview with Kenny Everett and The Beatles at Abbey Road Recording Studios London, which took place on Thursday 6th June 1968. Kenny entered the studios during the sessions for the White Album and the song Don’t Pass Me By. Predominately between Kenny and John Lennon with Paul, George and Ringo joining in later. The interview begins with just Everett and Lennon explaining that two incomplete songs had so far been recorded for The Beatles next album, one of which is Ringo Starr’s first composition. When asked to pick a record to be played, John Lennon chooses Harry Nilsson’s version of River Deep, Mountain High, which leads into a parody of Leadbelly’s Cottonfields. Everett, clearly concerned that the interview so far is yet to yield much usable material, asks whether the success of Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band had set the bar too high for future recordings. “It only got high cause everybody said how high it was” Lennon replies. “It’s no higher than it was when we made it”. Paul McCartney now joins the interview and they improvise a jingle for Everett’s Radio Show, after which George Harrison and Ringo Starr also enter the studio. Ringo Starr records another jingle followed by Paul McCartney’s lounge singer version of Strawberry Fields Forever and Christmas Time (is Here Again). Following a playback break, producer Tony Olivestone takes the microphone and describes the scene in the studio as The Beatles play a variety of instruments in the background. The Acetate is one sided with a duration of approximately 13. Minutes and 30 seconds. And plays at 33 rpm and has a very clear sound quality without skips and is overall in Excellent Minus condition and shows just a few surface hairlines and light surface marks and comes in a brown bag and a typed A4 sheet which details the interview.
