The’69 Promotional Album.. Original printed London Records inner sleeve included. This is by far the most famous and legendary Rolling Stones official promotional album available to date! Compiled by London Records in 1969, housed in a stunning, unique picture sleeve, and distributed exclusively to influential rock radio programmers prior to the release of “Let It Bleed, ” offering a solid two sides with unique tracking sequence tracks from the band’s back catalogue. Not concentrating on just the hits, it features more obscure album tracks, and includes an’alternate’ different recording of “Love In Vain, ” — available from no other source. The London Records promotional album was issued in 1969, and there were indeed just 400 copies of the record pressed and sent out to the most influential rock radio programmers in the run-up to the release of “Let It Bleed” the idea was that, combined with the two existing hits collections (High Tide & Green Grass and Through The Past Darkly), programmers would have every great Stones song they could need. Its also worth remembering that the version of Love In Vain included here is often described as an alternate take.. The following information is a background of the release. The Rolling Stones were about to go out on tour in 1969 after a long break, the last tour had taken place in 1966. Mick Taylor was a new member in the band. There was a decision taken that the upcoming tour of USA was to be promoted in a professional way through radio stations all over US. At that point of time there were two compilation albums on the market, “High Tide & Green Grass” from 1966 and “Through The Past Darkly” from 1969 – issued a few days earlier. It was decided that a third compilation album needs to be put together with the rest of the best songs that had not been on the two previous hits albums. From the get-go, the Stones were the raunchy, gritty doppelganger to the Beatles’ Merseybeat pop. They ventured a heavier, bluesier sound than their British Invasion counterparts, taking their cues from Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf. It’s difficult to listen to the trippy Their Satanic Majesties Request, the down-and-out honky-tonk of Exile On Main Street and the clean modernist surfaces of Bridges To Babylon and believe they were recorded by the same band. Of course, in some ways they weren’t; the lineup changes that have dogged the Stones account for much of their musical diversity. Jagger’s famous slur and Richards’ sloppy guitar elegance are the two constants in the band’s many life cycles that make every Stones song instantly recognizable. This album has been prepared for radio stations only by The Rolling Stones as a program aid. It was felt that most stations have in their library both volumes of The Rolling Stones Hits LP’s (NPS-1 And NPS-3) and that one more LP, assembled especially for radio stations, could be of great help in programming. This LP, consisting of 14 Rolling Stones selections, spans the complete recorded history of The Rolling Stones beginning with one of their earliest recordings (Route 66) and ending with a brand new selection which will be included in The Rolling Stones’ next LP (“Let It Bleed”). The picture on the sleeve was taken during the Let It Bleed recording sessions. It is a sepia toned shot of the band in the studio against a white background with the band name at the top and’A Special Radio Promotion Album In Limited Edition Not For Sale’ text. This LP, then, in combination with the other hit’s Lp’s (“Green Grass” & “Past Darkly”) provided radio stations of a comprehensive history of The Rolling Stones. Side One Route 66 – 1964 Walking The Dog – 1964 Around And Around – 1964 Suzie Q – 1965. Everybody Needs Somebody – 1965 , Off The Hook – 1965 I’m Free – 1965 She Said Yeah – 1965 Side Two Under My Thumb – 1966 Stupid Girl – 1966 2000 Man – 1967 Sympathy For The Devil – 1968 Prodigal Son – 1968 Love In Vain – 1969 (alternate version). CONDITION : The cover : Generally the sepia-toned cover is very fragile in terms of being wear-prone, so surviving copies often have wear & soil, here is a really CLEAN survivor, rated overall (strict) near “EX” (excellent)… Holy grail Rolling Stones collectible. 400 made, very few have ever seen, or owned. The vinyl : Rated: VG+ has some very light barely visible surface scuffs (not scratches) that do not affect play, per se, though there is one more noticeable mark (you can’t feel) on track 2, side 2 (Stupid Girl) which causes 4 or 5 revolution traces of low ticks. Apart from that, there is just a bit of low-low surface in track one, side 2, well below the music, and being really picky here, because clearly, nothing heard distracts overall from the audio experience. For all other tracks on side one & all of side two the audio quality is clear and crisp with near silent track breaks, free from noise or crackle. Both promo London labels are clean. A cool addition to anyone’s music library! SEE: SELLERS OTher items for similar cool sounds for “head” people.. All imperfections are noted both cover & record. IF you have a problem PLEASE let us solve. GRADING SCALE: M, M-, EX, VG++, VG+, VG, VG. M Completely clean, no marks. M- Carefully used, looks clean, plays clean, shiny gloss, no marks. EX Faint scuff or superficial mark, near M-, high gloss, plays clean. VG++ Glossy with minimal scuffing or light mark playing very nice, clean. VG+ a bit more scuff or markls still plays well with very minimal surface at worse. VG more marks/scratches only minor, nothing deep, no loud clicks or pops. This grade is abused by many, VG here does not mean “trashed”. VG- surface noise present, will not have skips or jumps. ALL PAYMENTS SHOULD BE MADE WITHIN 5 DAYS Of AUCTIONS END.
