This is a complete set with both black inner sleeves, Original lyric sheet/poster and 4 individual prints of The Beatles + the extremely rare photo spacer that came with the very first sets. This Lp is always said to be the “Crown Jewel” or “Holy Grail” of any Beatle collection and finding an original UK Mono pressing with a cover number under 500 is exceptionally rare. The original 1968 first issue, fully laminated top opening, Mono gatefold sleeve in VG+ condition. Two original UK Mono first issue (No EMI Text) vinyl Lps both in VG+ condition. Four Original, full color glossy photographs, one of each Beatle+ Original photo spacer. Original, large format, double sided lyric poster printed by Garrod and Lofthouse. Two original matt black inner sleeves in excellent condition minor edge tear on the top and around center circle. And’Mfd in UK’ label text. All four record labels are WITHOUT the wording’An E. Disc 1, Side 1 matrix XEX 709-1 & Side 2: XEX 710-1. Disc 2, Side 3 matrix: XEX 711-1 & Side 4: XEX 712-1. Disc 1, Side 1 stampers: 5/OM & Side 2: 7/L. Disc 2, Side 3 stampers: 1/A & Side 4: 4/CD. Both discs play very well through all the tracks – no skipping, no popping. Absolutely great MONO sound. Some light hair line marks on the vinyl that does not affect play! The front cover has a few marks as can be seen in the photos. It is great to see that there is virtually no record impression on the front and back covers. There has been some aging of the “White” cover but for the most part it really looks excellent. The laminate is intact although there are areas on the spine where it is beginning to loosen and some discoloring along the left side of the front cover next to the spine. On the spine you can clearly read all the print – The Beatles and Stereo PCS 7067-8 Mono PMC 7067-8. There are a couple of light crease marks in the upper right hand corner of the front cover. Some softening along the top opening but no tears or rips. The back cover has a few minor marks but displays very nicely. Both inside panels look very good. The embossed The Beatles and the record number No 0000441 are very legible. All four record labels are in VG+ or better condition, with very minor spindle marks that can be seen under close inspection. No writing, no stickers. The vinyl on all four sides is in excellent condition. They are still clean, bright and glossy with only very light surface marks from sliding the Lps out of the paper inner sleeve. The edges on the Lp are still nice and sharp. The Lp comes with all four photographs which are in VG+ condition. All four prints are 20 x 29 cos and are printed on the original thick cardstock – No tears, no writing, no pin-holes, no glue or sellotape marks. There are some areas of light wear along the tops from removing them from the cover. The photo spacer is in excellent condition. No tears, no writing, no pin-holes, no glue or sellotape marks. The Lp comes with the original Lip Stick poster / lyric sheet 57 x 87 cos in VG+ condition. No tears or splits, just some light wear on the edges and some light discoloration on the lyric side – No tears, no writing, no pin-holes, no glue or sellotape marks. Both inner sleeves are matt black and are in VG to VG+ condition. Very minor edge tear on the top of one of the inner sleeve and a small tear around the label hole on the other one. View the video below to see how effective the IsoPlatMat is at removing vibration, it gives the needle the opportunity to reproduce what is in the groove without external interference. Turntables are literally precision analogue measuring instruments using the cartridge stylus as the sensor. The needle traces the groove, its relative deflection causing the coils/magnets in the cartridge to transducer this mechanical energy into electrical energy, which is duly amplified and converted back into mechanical energy by your loudspeaker voice coils. This is the theory, at least, but in practice the stylus also picks up vibrations from the loudspeaker sound waves via the turntable itself. Indeed, the turntable itself acts as a kind of microphone, capturing all manner of ambient energy and feeding it back into the system (thus muddying the sound). This is why isolation is all important, as is suspension design and also the mechanical quietness of the platter (which is the closest point of contact between the turntable and the stylus). Trouble is, a great many decks still use metal platters usually mazak, cheap kind of. Aluminium alloy which tend to ring like a bell when struck with a fingernail. Manufacturers attempt to damp this ringing with, variously, felt, rubber or acrylic mats, but theres always room for improvement. Sound Damped Steels platter mat consists of two aluminium disks of differing thicknesses, with a layer of polymer sandwiched between, which is then balanced and black powder coated. Its simple to use; you just place the disk on your existing platter, and then (where applicable) put the existing mat on top. Because the disc is only 2mm thick, it shouldnt upset the arms Vertical Tracking Angle (VTA) too much, but if it does, then obviously youll have to adjust the arm height slightly. In decks with no mat (such as the Michell GyroDec), then the platter mat can go straight on the top. Placing the mat on any decks platter is quit amazing; flick the circumference of the platter without the SDS mat and it tings (especially if its metal, or glass rather than acrylic) but then add the SDS mat and repeat the exercise and its far more akin to a dull thunk. This shows how the mat takes so much mechanical energy out of the platter, deadening it down more effectively than any rubber, felt, glass, cork or sorbothane mat Ive ever tried. If the finger test proves its mechanical efficacy, then you should hear the difference it makes when records are spun in anger. Theres a dramatic reduction in clang in the midband, causing a real drop in nasal colouration. The whole soundstage opens out (front to back, left to right), the tonality of the instruments is better discernible, the bass appears tighter and more fluid and the treble smoother and cleaner. Even with a turntable with excellent disc support such as a Michell GyroDec, the SDS mat makes an obvious difference. Taking it a good way towards Orbe performance but with a mazak classic Japanese Direct Drive, its night and day; the SDS mat making the deck sound obviously less bright yet faster and more incisive too. This is the best turntable mat Ive yet heard. It may not work with every deck equally and may require some experimentation (rubber mat on or off, arm VTA up or same etc,), but Ive tried it on a wide variety of decks (budget, high end, belt drive and direct) and every time Ive wanted to keep it on rather than reverting back to stock.
